Hip-Hop recording artist Michel’le movie took center stage last month on Lifetime. The movie entitled, “Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le” is based on her life story as she triumphed over a life of abuse and adversity as the first lady of Ruthless Records. The movie premieres Saturday, October 15 at 8PM ET/PT and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Thinkfactory Media. Rhyon Nicole Brown (“Lincoln Heights”) will star as Michel’le. “Straight Out of Compton” co-star R. Marcos Taylor will reprise his role as Suge Knight. The movie will also feature newcomer Curtis Hamilton as Dr. Dre.
As a young artist with the squeaky speaking voice with powerful vocals that made everyone sit up and take notice, Michel’le’s career skyrocket along with the early success of N. W. A. music. This movie adds to what was let out of last year’s “Straight Out of Compton” movie.
“Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le” demonstrates Lifetime Broad Focus commitment to supporting and hiring women behind the camera with female writers, producers, directors, casting and costume designers for this project. The movie executive producer is Leslie Greif with writing by Dianne Houston (Take The Lead), directing by Janice Cooke (“One Tree Hill,” “UnREAL”), costumes by Jonetta Boon (“The Notebook”), casting by Fern Champion (“Hatfields & McCoys”), Leah Daniels (Empire) and Sharon Lieblein (“Million Dollar Quartet”), and composing by Kathryn Bostic (“Dear White People”), among others.
Michel’le was in Memphis early this year for “The Vibe” 98.9 Birthday Bash along with Hip-Hop artists Lady of Rage, Yo-Yo and Roxanne Shante.
