Let’s face it. Most girls like fashion and art, however, 9-year old E-Lissa Coleman took her love for the two and created a tie-dye t-shirt business called Tye Dye Tees. E-Lissa was recently at the Mid-South Fairgrounds participating in the Greater Memphis Business Fair. Customers of all ages purchase Tye Dye Tees array of assorted color t-shirts. The thing that fascinates customers the most about Tye Dye Tees is the age and maturity level of E-Lissa Coleman.
“Some of the responses I get from my t-shirts is the fact that I’m so young and doing it on my own. I can do mostly any color and design”, says Coleman.
One of the challenges Coleman face in starting was business was finding the right entrepreneur youth training program that was the right fit for her. She was able to get help through the Greater Memphis Children’s Business Fair. “A lot of the programs were trying to teach me to do it and not help me do it”, says Coleman.
Coleman was also able to obtain a microloan through the Breez’e Save Our Youth Foundation. The foundation was founded by celebrity child star Breez’e to support inner-city youths.
Working on her tie-dye t-shirts in the background of her sister’s video helped Coleman land her first sponsorship. One of her sponsors is True Star Foundation which operates a weekly, after-school and summer programming for youths to educated them on a variety of disciplines in the media industry. They use their program to produce True Star Jr. magazine. Coleman’s other sponsors are The WTF Foundation and All Over Printz.
