This Saturday, Ballet On Wheels will have its final event in collaboration with the Benjamin Hooks Central Library. Ballet On Wheels Dance School & Company will perform from 11:00 AM to Noon, Saturday, February 25, 2017. The event is free and open to the public.
This is Ballet On Wheels first collaboration with the Memphis Public Library during Black History Month. The opening kick-off included a dance performance by student Tamia Elliott. Tamia has been a student at Ballet On Wheels for 8 years. She has a love for dance and likes the discipline that it brings to her life.
Ballet On Wheels has over 250 kids in their program. Students can pay a monthly tuition fee or qualify for their scholarship program call “Dream to Dance”. Auditions for “Dream to Dance” will be April. You can go to their website at http://www.balletonwheels.org .
“You definitely have the stay on top of your toes literally just to be able to stay in classes. As soon as the students stop doing what they are suppose to do, parents will pull them of their classes.”
Ballet On Wheels Dance School & Company is in its fifteen years of existence. The students in the program don’t necessarily aspire to become professional dancers but the training gives them the focus and discipline they need to pursue their future career goals.
One of their upcoming performances this year will be “Annie” in the month of June at the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts and Education in downtown Memphis.
